Diaper Cakes

Last year one of my resolutions was to exercise my crafty side and here is another one of those projects.

Below is my very first diaper cake I made! Excuse the bad photos, it was with my android and the lighting was horrible.
This one is very basic.  It was my first time ever making one and trying to figure it out on my own.

I used one pack of size 1 diapers.  I didn't have any rubber-bands, so I improvised and used hair bands.  I rolled the first 4 diapers, then wrapped a black rubber-band around them.  This would be my center part that would hold the other diapers together around it.

I then laid the diapers out in a circle and slowly started wrapping them together around the base(my rolled diapers).  I then secured with a larger hairband, which eventually popped, so I had to find another one and then quickly tie with the ribbon and stuff the other diapers around it.
This is how it turns out.  I stacked the two diaper circles to complete the cake.

Finished Product!  I tied shoes, rubber duckies, a onesie, teething rings and stuffed animal
around it.

My 2nd one was a little more complicated, but unfortunately, I had to make it quickly, it was a last minute gift and I didn't get any before and during pictures, but this is the finished product.  This one was way more fun to make, but a little harder to get even! :)

I used a pack of the Huggies blue Jean diapers so the bike would be blue.  The front light is a bottle, with onesie's on the front and around the bottle.  I used a very stiff diaper pad to make the handle bars and then put blue skull socks to make it feel more like a Harley, haha.  Then a burp cloth and bib underneath to make the seat for the bike.  It makes giving diapers so much more fun when they can be a center piece.

Leaky Diapers?

The past few weeks have been a soggy mess in Tenley's bed.  She has slept through the night since she was only a few weeks old, but now that she is older and drinking more milk, she is waking up soaking wet.  I have tried putting on a cloth diaper over her disposable but we still have leakage.
Dr. Denmark recommends putting the diaper on backwards when changing your newborn since her advice is to keep your baby on its tummy at all times including diaper changes to keep the very soft skull from being flattened and for the baby to feel more secure.
It appears to be a silly notion for my daughter to wear her diaper backwards but if there is more coverage in the back surely this could work.  Wallah-- we have fixed the nighttime leaky problem!!  Here are some pictures of Tenley and her backwards diaper.
On a side note, these are the free Walgreens diapers I got on my last Walgreen shopping spree!  See the "Couponing" category for that post.  :)

My first shot at Extreme Couponing!

Being recently inspired from the new hit TV show Extreme Couponing and  following Southern Savers and Thrifty mom,  I never knew I could save so much money by taking time to use coupons.  My previous experience using coupons was the item I was purchasing with a coupon was more expensive than another brand without a coupon so I gave up since I believed it to be a waste of time.  This week I decided to give it another try with my new found knowledge of tips and tricks.
These are my recent "DEALS" from Target and Walgreens:
Walgreens has Diapers on sale for Buy one Get one Free and a Infant Care Coupon Book that I requested from a Manager, the book was not displayed at the front. Scanning my coupon once it took $2 off every pack. This is what the deal looked like:
$8.99 x 4= $35.96
BOGO - $17.98
Coupon - $8.00($2 off each pack)
Total:  $9.98 for 4 packs of diapers!!!!!!  YAY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

 Target Deals this week:

Bounce Dryer Bar was on the Clearance end cap on sale $5.08, originally $5.99.  My bounce coupon took $1 off making it $4.08.  Not bad for 3months of dryer sheets and they smell awesome!  My husband even complimented the wonderful new aroma of our clothes.  Here is what it looks like inside my dryer.  So far, I'm sold on the product.
Next we have the Suave Children's Hair/body wash and Detangler for my 2 1/2yr old.
Originally $5, on clearance for $4.25, using a coupon for a $1 off made it $3.25.  Not to shabby making the items a little over a $1 each. :)  Especially something used often at our house.

Last but not least my BEST deal of the week:
Scrubbing Bubbles Daily Power Shower spray originally $6.99, on clearance for $3.48.  I printed a coupon for $3 off at coupons.com(you can find the link for coupons.com on the left side of my blog) making my Daily Shower Sprayer 48cents!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  AAAAHH!!!  This particular purchase sold me on using coupons again.  :)
